Helldivers 2 Leviathan Strategy: How to Defeat the Leviathan Fast

[DarkWolf5]

If you've been dropping into the latest Illuminate fronts, chances are you've seen the sky darken under the massive shadow of an Illuminate Leviathan warship. It's an imposing sight, and if your squad isn't prepared, it will easily lock down an entire map while raining plasma death from above. Standard medium-penetration weapons, Heavy Machine Guns, and Laser Cannons will simply bounce off its healthy hull, leading to wasted ammo and panicked reinforcements.

Taking this flying terror down requires a clear understanding of its armor mechanics and a coordinated response. To defeat the Leviathan quickly, you must deploy Class 5 Armor Penetration (AP5) heavy anti-tank weapons to shatter its outer plating, creating a burning vulnerability that your entire squad can exploit.

Best Loadouts for Fast Kills
When it comes to bringing down the Leviathan, half measures will get you wiped. You need dedicated anti-tank stratagems that can punch right through AP5 armor ratings. Here are the best tools for the job right now:

Anti-Tank Emplacement (Urban Legends Warbond): This is hands-down the absolute fastest solo method available. It packs incredible stopping power and holds enough ammunition to completely shred two to three Leviathans back-to-back, provided you pace your shots and focus your fire on the right spots.

Recoilless Rifle (RR): The top pick for mobile squads. On its own, it takes about 5 to 7 raw hits anywhere on the ship to secure a kill. However, if you utilize a coordinated Buddy Reload system, a dedicated duo can delete the entire warship in under 10 seconds.

SPEAR: For consistency at a distance, the SPEAR is a fantastic choice. It reliably locks onto the head section of the ship and guarantees a hard kill in exactly 5 direct hits.

True Weak Spots & Mechanics
The Leviathan is essentially a massive flying tank with a health pool of roughly 17,500 HP wrapped in heavy AP5 armor plating. Trying to brute-force your way through that health bar is a bad idea. Instead, you can exploit its physical geometry using two distinct strategies depending on your squad's loadout:

The Wing-Plating Break (Fastest Time-to-Kill): Instead of firing blindly at the center hull, aim your heavy anti-tank rockets directly at the main fins or the side winglets. Breaking a wing shatters the outer plating and exposes glowing blue interior flesh. Once this wound is open, the local armor rating drops to AP4. This means your squadmates can immediately chip in with Autocannons, Eruptors, and other heavy weapons to melt the rest of its health pool in seconds.

Underside Light Rings: If you are directly underneath the warship, look for the three spinning blue circular nodes running down its spine. Firing Recoilless Rifles straight into these nodes bypasses some of the structural mitigation, reducing the total rocket threshold needed for a kill from 7 shots down to 6.

Stratagems to Avoid
Not all heavy ordnance is effective against airborne targets. Tracks and targeting systems can betray you, so make sure you don't waste slot selections on these options:

Orbital Railcannon & Orbital Laser: These powerful stratagems exclusively lock onto grounded enemies. If you throw them down while a Leviathan is overhead, they will completely fail to track or do any damage to the flying ship.

Patriot Mech Suit: The rockets on the standard Patriot suit consume far too much ammunition to be efficient against this specific target. If you happen to be piloting an Emancipator Mech, you can technically bring a Leviathan down, but it will eat up roughly half of your total ammunition reserves just to kill one ship.

Tactical Survival Tips
If you find yourself facing a Leviathan without the optimal setup, or if you're struggling to survive long enough to get your rockets off, keep these battlefield realities in mind:

Neutralize the Artillery: If your team is fresh out of heavy anti-tank ammo and can't finish the ship off, don't lose hope. Put a single anti-tank rocket or a few Commando missiles directly into the front wing cannons. This completely snaps off its primary weaponry, permanently leaving the warship safely disabled and wandering around aimlessly while you finish your main objectives.

Equip Blast Resistance: The Leviathan fires hyper-accurate plasma shots that can easily one-shot an unprepared diver. Always drop in with armor featuring the B-24 Enforcer or any variant with the Fortified trait. The 50% explosive damage resistance is a literal lifesaver here.

Break Line of Sight: It's easy to panic when a massive warship is hovering nearby, but Leviathans actually patrol on very predictable paths. They will not aggressively chase you across the entire map. If you need to reload your Recoilless Rifle or wait out a stratagem cooldown, use large urban buildings and heavy terrain to break line of sight and reset.
